A European premium motorcycle OEM wants to offer an outstanding off-roading experience to its riders through its adventure motorcycles. The focus of this case study is on the benefits of Sibros’ Deep Connected Platform (DCP) which enables software updates and data logging for the OEM. With Sibros’ connected vehicle platform enabled on their vehicles, the OEM can now provide more seamless and efficient updates while monitoring the performance of their motorcycles. This, in turn, allows them to identify and implement any necessary software or feature adjustments to improve the overall riding experience for their customers. By utilizing DCP, this OEM has established itself as a leader in the adventure motorcycle industry.
Our customer needed to implement a high-frequency data logging and remote command management system for their entire motorcycle architecture. Their requirements included a need for over-the-air update capabilities, flexible data logging, and remote diagnostic commands all via a single platform.
One key area of interest was data compression at the edge, which significantly reduces storage requirements and bandwidth usage, making it easier and more cost-effective to manage in-vehicle data. Additionally, this OEM wanted to be able to capture and analyze high-frequency data from all their motorcycles in real-time. This level of visibility would allow them to identify any potential issues and address them before they become major problems, such as recalls. There was also a desire to anonymize the data collection process to ensure the privacy of their customers while still leveraging valuable data for analysis and future upgrades.

Before implementing Sibros DCP, our customer faced several challenges. While implementing the end-of-life (EOL) package deployment and configuring the electronic control units (ECUs) during the assembly process, the company had to make key decisions on whether or not to perform these actions at the time of assembly. The complexity of these processes posed a significant challenge to the OEM.
Another challenge was addressing bandwidth safety, which is crucial to ensuring the stable and secure transfer of data. This was particularly pertinent in relation to multi-party cloud setup. Sibros, a leading provider of connected car solutions, suggested a comprehensive approach to addressing this OEM’s pressing concerns related to data logging, software version logging, third-party systems integration, GDPR compliance, and firmware and software updates.
To address data logging and software version logging, Sibros proposed using the OTX file format that enables the logging of critical and non-critical functionalities in the mobile app and TCU applications. This approach ensures that the OEM can easily segregate and manage data based on importance.
For third-party systems integration, Sibros suggested using APIs that provide a standard interface to connect with various third-party systems. This enables the OEM to easily integrate with a wide range of systems while ensuring compatibility and security.
To address GDPR compliance, Sibros proposed using cloud APIs that are fully compliant with GDPR. These APIs provide a secure and reliable way to store and manage data, ensuring that the OEM is fully compliant.
Customer is using Sibros DCP and AWS IoT Core to analyze data from millions of vehicles in real-time. This will allow them to offer personalized services to drivers, such as predictive maintenance and over-the-air software updates. Sibros solution and AWS IoT Core will also provide secure communication between connected cars and cloud services, ensuring that all data is encrypted and protected from unauthorized access.
Finally, to ensure seamless firmware and software updates, Sibros proposed integrating the OEM's system with the hardware provider's system. This approach enables the OEM to easily manage updates, TCU applications, and cloud infrastructure while reducing the risk of errors and downtime.

The implementation of Sibros’ Deep Connected Platform enables the OEM to achieve significant outcomes. The OEM has recognized and appreciated the data logging process and the quality of the data logged after implementing Sibros Deep Logger. Deep Logger captures real-time data from every ECU, which has helped the OEM analyze vehicle performance and identify areas for improvement. This data can also be utilized to develop better products and services to meet customer needs.
After the successful outcomes achieved with Deep Logger, the OEM approached Sibros to implement the Deep Updater for ECU software updates. This move has allowed the OEM to realize custom updates across vehicles with different combinations of ECUs. The OEM and Sibros have also enacted strategies to address scenarios, such as update and/or network failure. This approach ensures that the OEM's customers receive secure and safe software updates for new feature upgrades as well as bug fixes.
After awarding software and firmware updates, data logging, and remote command management for every ECU to Sibros, the OEM has achieved program development, deployment, and management from PoC to a full-blown SOP and is ready for production. By implementing firmware updates and data logging configurations at the factory level, the OEM can now update and maintain software and firmware throughout the vehicle's life cycle, including EoL software updates.
